PRESS RELEASE
NOVEMBER 3, 2021 Toronto family hosts 2nd annual online auction to support brain tumour patients and caregivers TORONTO, ON., November 3, 2021 -- Janet Fanaki and her children Isobel and Sam established The Adam Fanaki Brain Fund when her husband and their father passed away in February 2020. He was only 51 years old and died of glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain cancer. The family has raised over $170,000 through grassroots fundraising and a fun annual online auction. This year’s auction runs November 6 - 14th. Over 60 packages are up for bids including: Toronto Maple Leafs tickets, art, a custom dinner at R&D restaurant owned by Masterchef winner Eric Chong, spirits and wine, children’s crafts and so much more - all items donated by Toronto and area businesses. “We understand the stress that comes from living with a brain tumour,” says Janet Fanaki. “To heal from our grief, we have made this fundraiser as a purpose to help patients and caregivers and to let them know that they are not alone in this experience.” Since it started, The Adam Fanaki Brain Fund has donated to multiple organizations. They include: the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada to help them continue to print and distribute essential handbooks for patients and caregivers as well as to support virtual programs during the pandemic; a Comfort Fund at St. Michael’s Hospital which provides patients experiencing financial hardship with the funds to cover parking fees, medicine, eyeglasses, and food. In addition, thanks to our financial support, a brand new technology led by the Brain Tumour Foundation and Sunnybrook’s Odette Cancer Centre will be unveiled which will help patients and caregivers across Canada. This year, our newest benefactor is the Department of Neurosurgery at SickKids. Starting November 6th please visit www.32auctions.com/adamfanakibrainfund to bid. Special thanks to our lead donor Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP and major donors BMO Private Wealth and Brian Facey and Julie Soloway as well as Manulife.
