TORONTO, ON -- Today is GivingTuesday. A day of charitable giving, it falls right after the mega shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Although it takes place all year, GivingTuesday is a day to recognize the role that charities play in changing the lives of people.

Janet Fanaki, and her children Isobel and Sam, established The Adam Fanaki Brain Fund when her husband and their father passed away in February 2020 of glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain cancer.

The family has raised over $250,000 through grassroots fundraising and GivingTuesday is a part of that campaign.

“We understand the stress that comes from living with a brain tumour,” says Janet. “To heal from our grief, we have made this fundraiser as a purpose to help patients and caregivers and to let them know that they are not alone in this experience.”

There are many benefits to making a donation on a day like today. Two of the biggest:

  • It helps a charity to come closer to meeting its mandate
  • Donors feel better knowing that they are making a difference

The Fanaki family have built personal relationships with their charity partners including: The Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook, Division of Neurosurgery at St. Michael’s Hospital and the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
