OCTOBER 24, 2022 Today marks Brain Cancer Awareness Day across Canada Toronto family raises nearly $250,000 for programs and services helping brain tumour patients and caregivers TORONTO, ON., October 24, 2022 -- Janet Fanaki and her children, Isobel and Sam, established The Adam Fanaki Brain Fund when her husband and their father passed away in February 2020. He was only 51 years old and died of glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain cancer. The family has raised nearly $250,000 through grassroots fundraising, helping to fund programs and services at: St. Michael’s Hospital Division of Neurosurgery; the Brain Tumour Clinic at The Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre; Sick Kids and the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. “We understand the stress that comes from living with a brain tumour,” says Janet Fanaki. “To heal from our grief, we created this fundraiser as a purpose to help patients and caregivers - to let them know that they are not alone in this experience.” Since its establishment, The Adam Fanaki Brain Fund has received support from hundreds of individual donors as well as Canadian business leaders including a 5 year commitment from its lead donor Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP.
