PRESS RELEASE NOVEMBER 2, 2020 TORONTO FAMILY TURNS LOSS AND GRIEF INTO PURPOSE AND HEALING November 2, 2020, Toronto, ON -- One Toronto mom and her children have found a way to turn their loss into a way of helping those living with a brain tumour. Janet Fanaki and her children Isobel (21) and Sam (18) created The Adam Fanaki Brain Fund to raise money for organizations that help brain tumour patients and caregivers. The fund has raised $85,000 and is holding an online auction starting this weekend. The online event starts Saturday, November 7 and runs until November 15 with 45 items available from wine and spirits, beauty products, floral delivery, original artwork, home decor, jewellery and gourmet food items. All proceeds from The Adam Fanaki Brain Fund are donated to The Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook, Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and St. Michael’s Hospital Neurosurgery department. Janet’s husband Adam was diagnosed with glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain cancer. He passed away in February 2020 at only 51 years old. “My children and I have turned our grief into a purpose,” says Janet Fanaki. “By helping others who are living with a brain tumour, we are not only helping them but helping ourselves to grieve and heal from our loss.” The fund has given a major donation to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada to support virtual support programs during COVID-19 as well as essential patient and caregiver handbooks, given when someone is diagnosed with a brain tumour.
