How our 2020 funds have been distributed so far
The Adam Fanaki Brain Fund raised over $145,000 this year to help charities that provide support to brain tumour patients and caregivers.
Large donations were given to the following:
- The Brain Tumour Foundation Of Canada to continue to distribute Patient and Caregiver Handbooks as well as run virtual support programs.
- Launch a new technology initiative with Sunnybrook's Odette Cancer Center in Toronto and the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
- Contribute to the Comfort Fund at St. Michael's Hospital in the Neurosurgery ICU department as well as to the 3 Wishes program.
It helps make challenging circumstances a little easier - covering items like medication, toiletries, gift cards for food, glasses, TTC,
parking and other transportation costs for patients and their family members.
The Three Wishes Program allows families to honour and celebrate the lives of loved ones who are at the end of life.
Our mission is to help patients and their caregivers in a personal way - to let them know that they are not alone in this experience.
Our first fundraiser was a big success for The Adam Fanaki Brain Fund
November 7-15, 2020 we hosted our first ONLINE AUCTION to raise funds for The Adam Fanaki Brain Fund.
So many fantastic items were collected and donated by small businesses in the Greater Toronto Area and throughout Ontario.
Products like gift baskets, original art, jewellery, floral arrangements, vacation stays and gift cards. Some of our phenomenal donors included: Cheese Boutique, The Food Dudes, Stacey Cohen Design, Jiffy On Demand, Carriage Trade Shop and Maison Apothecare - and many, many more. Please see the list below.
Over $15,000 was raised to build programs and services for brain cancer patients and caregivers at The Odette Cancer Centre's brain tumour clinic under Dr. James Perry at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, St. Michael's Hospital Neurosurgery Unit and Dr. Sunit Das, and the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
This amount helped us exceed our fundraising goals. In total, we have raised over $102,000.

Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada receives donation from The Adam Fanaki Brain Fund
Janet Fanaki introduces Michelle Bliss, brain tumour patient & caregiver who talks about the essential handbook funded by The Adam Fanaki Brain Fund
The Adam Fanaki Brain Fund was established in February 2020 to provide organizations helping brain cancer patients and their caregivers with necessary funding for programs and services.
Adam Fanaki was one of Canada's brightest and most accomplished lawyers who lived in Toronto with his wife Janet and their children Isobel and Sam. The family launched the fund following his death from glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain cancer. He was only 51 years old.
The family firmly believes in giving back to the agencies that are helping those currently battling brain cancer. By helping these organizations, Janet, Isobel and Sam Fanaki have found a purpose that strengthens their resilience.
So far, over $120,000 has been pledged by generous individuals and Canadian businesses to The Adam Fanaki Brain Fund.
We especially thank Davies, Ward, Phillips & Vineberg LLP for being our lead donor, as well as major donors BMO Private Wealth, Brian Facey and Julie Soloway, Borden, Ladner, Gervais LLP, TORYS LLP, Robert M. Ben of Thomson Rogers Lawyers, Nick and Nicki Perpick, Huy Do and Tony Di Domenico and FASKENS.
We are proud to announce the first large donation to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. This financial contribution will assist the BTF in continuing to distribute their essential patient and caregiver handbooks, as well as funding the increasingly utilized virtual support programs that have been crucial during COVID-19.
